New Seafood City creates 20-plus jobs on Southside

A new ‘seafood boil’ restaurant is set to open on Southside next week, creating more than 20 jobs.

Seafood City will occupy a 2,746 sq ft unit previously occupied by Rozu in The Arcadian, seating up to 99 people inside plus outdoor seating.

The independently ownes venue, which will have a cocktail bar as its centrepiece, will be creating 22 full and part-time jobs.

Seafood City is a concept from the entrepreneurs behind Vietnamese Street Kitchen, which already has successful venues in the Bullring and Resorts World.

General manager Oliver Ngo explained that the restaurant has taken its inspiration from the original southern ‘seafood boil’ made famous in Louisiana in the USA, using a traditional cooking method to ‘lock in’ the taste of the sea.

Since then, he said the cooking style has been adopted by the Vietnamese community with new flavours that set to be the next foodie TikTok sensation in the Midlands.

Oliver said: “It’s all about diving right in, putting your bib aprons on and getting your hands messy so that you can enjoy seafood in an unpretentious way. The idea is to bring friends, families and seafood lovers together to enjoy the riches of the sea in the simplest way possible.

“The seafood boil is a wonderful way to enhance individual flavours and textures. Our concept is simple: you boil your choice of seafood, pair it with our signature sauce, garlic butter or our XXL sauce for those who like it hot!”

The restaurant's classic 'City Boil' includes five king prawns, five fresh mussels, red roast potatoes, garlic bread, corn on the cob and a choice of sauces (garlic butter, cajun or hot and spicy) for £15.95.

Other dishes include the 'Don't Be Shellfish' plater with a lobster tail, ten king prawns, ten fresh mussels, red roast potatoes, corn on the cob and garlic bread.  At £39.90 this dish is enough to be shared between two. 'The Feast' offers a larger version, including snow crab cluster, for four people to share at £115.

Cocktail lovers can try blends such as Lychee Coolers and Passionfruit Daiquiris (£8.95 or two for £15).  Mocktails are also available for £5.95 including the Sweet Sunset with pineapple juice, hibiscus, aromatic bitter and lime juice.

Julia Robinson, manager of Southside BID, said: “We always love welcoming new restaurants to our area and this one sounds like it will be a lot of popular fun for our visitors.”

Rob Ellis, director and asset manager for The Arcadian, welcomed the new letting, and said: "This new restaurant is a fantastic addition to our diverse range of dining options, and we are confident it will be a hit."
