Southside District Launches Electrical Safety Sessions to Protect Local Residents
Southside District is thrilled to announce the launch of its new electrical safety initiative, made possible through recently secured funding. This program aims to educate residents on best practices for electrical safety while offering practical support to ensure homes and devices remain safe.
The first session successfully took place on Tuesday at the Chinese Community Centre, where residents were offered free PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) services for their electrical equipment. Attendees also received expert safety advice on how to identify risks and prevent potential electrical hazards in their homes.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their appreciation for the accessible and proactive approach to community safety.
As part of the initiative, participants received copies of the ‘How Safe is Your Home?’ safety leaflet from Electrical Safety First. This resource contains vital information about common electrical dangers in the home and practical tips for staying safe. It is an invaluable guide for anyone looking to reduce electrical risks and maintain a safe living environment.
Next Session: February at Iland Apartments
Building on the success of the first session, Southside District is excited to announce its next event, which will be held in February at the Iland Apartments building. The focus will remain on providing valuable safety advice alongside free PAT testing for local residents.
To secure your spot at the next event, please email (information@southsidedistrict.co.uk) to register your interest.
This initiative underscores Southside District’s commitment to enhancing community safety and ensuring residents feel supported in protecting their homes and loved ones.
Stay tuned for further updates on dates and times for February’s session. If you’re a Southside resident, don’t miss this opportunity to make your home safer.
The Electrical Safety Fund is an annual grant scheme run by the charity Electrical Safety First. The Fund provides £500,000 to support community projects across the UK that aim to reduce domestic electrical risks.
Around half of all domestic fires in the UK are caused by electricity, with most of those arising from electrical products.
Lesley Rudd, chief executive at Electrical Safety First, says: “We are delighted to award this grant to Southside District. Our Electrical Safety Fund is designed to empower groups to help keep local people in their communities safe. Our website provides free advice for everyone to avoid fatal electrical fires and shocks in their home – visit www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk.”
